UPDATE: 1-12-10
Sarah celebrating New Years Eve" - our night owl -
We continue to work with Sarah to help her develop head control, muscle control and strength while sitting, standing in her walker, on the floor, etc. She works with special education, physical therapy, and occupational therapy people every week. She LOVES the "lights and music sound" learning toys that they bring for her to explore with.
She has been staying pretty healthy, and we continue to pray that she will stay that way! We are SO blessed to have her with us and can't believe she is already 4 years old now. Time has flown by and continues to do so. Prayer requests - continue to pray that we can work towards removing of her trach, breathing room air, muscle development and control, and for overall health for her and our family!
Blessings to all!
Diane
UPDATE: 10-29-09
This update came in today, but was dated Oct. 25th. I do not know what caused the delay in delivery, but that is cyber space for you. . . Elizabeth
Hello,
Sarah is recovering again from an illness (lungs, cold, etc.)... She
is on a low amount of oxygen to keep her sats above 90. Most of us
have had the some type of a flu, and are hoping that we are done this
season! We don't have time to be sick...
Sarah seems to flip her days and nights around quite often, and she is
now back to being awake during most of the day again, which is nice
for physical and occupational therapy. It is really hard to help her
when she sleeps during the day and is awake at night. We continue to
pray for strengthening muscles, healing within her lungs, and her heart.
We want to thank all of you that remember Sarah and our family in your
prayers each day! Sarah just lost her uncle Randy, recently at only
56 years old. It reminds us again, how precious life is, knowing that
at anytime we can be called home. The question we ask is - Are you
ready? God does love you, and wants a personal relationship with
you, which can be found only through His son, Jesus. Jesus shed his
blood on the cross so that we can have a restored relationship with
God - ask Him into your life today - rejoicing that you will spend
eternity with Him!
Blessings to all,
Diane
UPDATE: 8-19-09
Sarah has been recovering from her hospital stay this past May. It seems to be taking a lot longer to wean her off of the oxygen this time. Through it all, she has been a happy, content girl. We love her smiles! We are making progress with her head control, and are currently working with her on sitting up, kneeling ideas, and continue to place her in her stander to help with circulation, and digestion. All of these exercises try to help build muscle and control. She is so weak in these areas. She is learning to shake her head yes/no, and has better control of her right hand as it continues to straighten out more. Her eye check went well - her first trip out since being in the hospital. She really likes toys that have lights and music, and at times she seems to move her body with the music. She loves the Little Mermaid movie - really any movie with music and pretty colors! She is already in a size 18-24 months clothes - hard to believe!
Shanae update - still working at trying to get her to eat, and gain some weight. Rik is working at trying to improve his health... I'm still working on that too... Josh has been going to college to learn Audio Recording like Rik, Jeremy graduated this past May in Automotive Repair, and Jesse is in love and going to be a daddy again. Nathan, Angela and Luke are doing well. Praising God for little things, bad things and expecting great things that will bring Him glory!
Life is so busy - He is faithful and just to see us through it all!
Thank you for your continued faithfulness to pray for Sarah and for our family!
Blessings to all of you!
Diane
UPDATE: 7-5-09
Hello,
Sarah was in the hospital for a week the first part of May with
pneumonia as most of you know. We have had her home since 5/14. We
still continue to try and wean her off of the vent and oxygen. She
just came down with ANOTHER infection in her lungs, seems like a bad
cold... SO... her oxygenbr>
I'm sorry that I haven't taken the time to update all of you - life
seems to get away from me with too much "stuff" going on in our
lives. I wish the world would stop so we could hop off for a while.
We did have a WONDERFUL break in June with family in California though
- MUCH needed!
The Lord continues to be our strength each day and we delight in
knowing that one day we will be able to see Him face to face, and then
I know we will be asking lots of questions. We know that He will give
us the answers to so many things we don't understand right now. I
continue to pray for His peace in our lives as we continue to try and
seek Him, and ask for His guidance in all we do.
Please continue to pray for Sarah, and for our family. The enemy
seems to be attacking in so many ways and at times I am so weary and
drained. May He place a new song in my heart so that I may bring Him
glory with my life in all I do! Continually, livin' on my knees...
Blessings to all of you!
Diane
UPDATE: 5-6-09
Hello,
She is still struggling with germs in her lungs - needing increasing amounts of oxygen. We had labs done today, chest xrays and cultures - hoping for some breakthrough soon! If she doesn't show signs of improvement soon, a hospital stay is next with IV's.
Much prayer needed - thanks!
God Bless,
Diane
UPDATE: 5-1-09
Hello,
Sarah is still sick with 2 germs in her lungs. The doctors won't give us an IV to fight the one germ (supposedly there is only one drug that treats it and it is given through an IV). We do have an antibiotic for the other germ. I guess these are germs that are commonly found in our mouth, but when they get in the lungs the lungs don't have other germs to keep them in check. I am trying to find out if there are any herbs that I can give her to help fight these germs.
Keep praying - she is still requiring oxygen.
God Bless,
Diane
UPDATE: 4-24-09
Hello All,
Sarah has been sick with a couple of germs in her lungs... she is
needing oxygen, which she normally doesn't require. Her spirit is
good though - the illness doesn't seem to be effecting her personality
right now - thanking the Lord in ALL things! It seems that the one
organism requires an IV (one drug kills it from what we understand),
and she doesn't have a pic line right now. She is on an antibiotic
for the other germ. So, we are struggling with the doctors on trying
to get both germs treated properly - it seems to always be a fight...
Sarah weighs 21 lbs. now, and continues to work on strengthening her
muscles for head control, and trying to help strengthen her back
muscles as her spine is getting curved. Praying for healing and
proper guidance for care.
I'm still struggling with my health - good days, and not so good
days... Thankful though for having ALL my days!
Great news - Jeremy (our son that was in the motorcycle accident and
dead in the doctors eyes back in May'06) - is graduating from college
on May 20th!!!!! He is a walking miracle of the Lord - we are SO
thankful for God's love, mercy, grace, healing hand, and wonderful
blessing of life that he has given to Jeremy!
Josh is home from China after living there for 5 years! What a
wonderful blessing, as he is staying in our home! He is SO good with
children, so he is helping me a lot with his brothers and sisters.
We are praying for the Lord to continue to guide all of our children
in their walk with Him! God is SO GOOD and WORTHY to be PRAISED!
Thank you for your continued faithfulness to pray for Sarah, and our
family! Please forward this email on to others that you know that
will join us in prayer - thanks!
God Bless,
Diane
UPDATE: 4-5-09
Hello,
Quick update:
Life is So busy... sorry about not updating for prayer requests.
Our son, Josh is home from China - what a blessing to have him helping
with his brothers and sisters!
The insurance side of things is sad... They want to cut nursing
coverage for Sarah, physical therapy, and occupational therapy - they
say it isn't necessary (because she is doing so much better since she
is home). She is still trached/vented - so she does require 24 hour
nursing care, and she does need physical therapy and occupational
therapy - we are not doctors, or nurses... We continue to have to
appeal the insurance company, as they are taught to not help these
children.
Sarah seems to be recovering from the germs that were in her lungs.
She is off the Tobi nebs. We continue to claim healing for her body,
even though we cannot ''see'' it at times, we trust the Lord that he
continues to work in her life. It seems that she is off the Tobi nebs
and then is on again, off again, on again. We are told that since she
is trached it is difficult to get rid of the germs permanently as they
have easy access into her system. Trying to NOT accept that report!
Shanae has still NOT gained any weight - now it has been 2 1/2 years.
We still don't know what is wrong... It started after our car
accident with clearing her throat, and difficulty swallowing and
continues now with tummy problems. Please pray for her.
The rest of the children continue to have neck, and back complaints,
yet we work through it as a family, helping each other.
Our finances could use a lot of prayers - we continue to seek the Lord
for his guidance in the choices that we are making. We are so busy
trying to support our family, that the days have a way of passing by
too fast without a closeness, or bonding between us. Much prayer is
appreciated!
My health - hasn't changed much - still hanging in there - trying
different herbs and hoping to afford to start physical therapy for my
neck/back/left arm weakness...
Thank you ALL for your continued prayers!
God Bless,
Diane

Condition=Our unborn daughter has been diagnosed with Trisomy 18. She
is due on Nov. 30th, 2005
Comments:
My husband and I learned that Sarah was a special child, with Trisomy
18 (Edward's syndrome) when I was about 17 weeks along. We were told
SO many times to abort her (actually the doctors call it "deliver her
early", instead of using the term abortion). We have had many battles
with doctors, and nurses as they are taught in medical school to allow
these babies to die, and NOT to treat, or care for them (it was the
same way in the 60's-70's with Trisomy 21 (Downs syndrome). It seems
that there is no value to human life anymore (God talks about this
happening as we get closer to His return), unless you are perfect (in
the world's eyes).
I began to search on the internet for any and all information on the
subject trying to educate myself to prepare for her precious arrival on
how we could help her, as none was given by any of the medical
profession except for the abortion idea. I have met MANY families in
my search, that also have Trisomy 18 children that are living and have
become friends with many of the moms. There are many families that
have chosen life for these special children as we have, and they are
a wonderful resource of information and support.
We continue to trust the LORD with Sarah's life, and lean on Him for
our strength, and for her continued healing. It is a daily battle, yet
we will stand firm in our faith and speak boldly about God's love for
ALL children, regardless of any health problem. Please join us in
praying for Sarah!
Thank you for ALL of your prayers!
God Bless,
Diane
I thought I would send you a photo of our unborn daughter, Sarah,
taken on 8/17/05. She weighed in at 1 lb. 2 oz. Isn't she
beautiful?! Thank you for all prayers for her! We are continuing to
pray for a complete healing, which includes: that her body will get
rid of the extra 18th chromosome, that the VSD (hole) in her heart
will close, that her brain will develop normally, that her hands will
be able to open and close, that she will be able to nurse, breathe,
etc. She is swallowing amniotic fluid, which is a good sign! We
continue to trust the Lord and pray that His glory will be revealed
through her life!
God Bless,
Rik and Diane
