Jacob B.

UPDATE: 3-6-08
All day yesterday Jacob had a high fever that would go down but quickly rise again and since his track record for fevers gets dangerous I was not taking any chances in the wait dept. So last night Jacob and I decided to take a little ride to the local ER. They diagnosed him with an Upper Resp. Infection. The highlight of his evening was receiving an orange popsicle and 4 spongebob stickers. I was not to happy with the doctor that had seen him since he too was sick.

UPDATE: 4-27-06
We finally, yes finally, got the results of Jacob's visit to the developmental pedi. that was done back in March. We shouldve found out the following week and it took them this long, grrr. Anywho, they finally got the report and she is mailing me a copy of it. He falls in the Autism Spectrum Catergory only because of his social and language. He does not have a full blown or severe case. just thought I would share one more thing to add on my list

It was a good Christmas and 3rd Birthday for Jacob :)
12/25/2005 - HAPPY 3RD BIRTHDAY MUNCHKIN!
Mommy, Daddy & Sissy love you very much! Tomorrow you will be able to dig into your Thomas the Tank cake, yummmy!
My son was evaluated for autism by the school psychologist but really looking at him, visiting with him, you can't tell. He is going to be seeing the developmental pediatrician soon. All the tests and doctors he has seen and no one had ever brought up about autism with us. When people usually hear "autism", they think unresponsive, no speech, etc. I don't think my so has autism we think he has this ODD. So I guess Im like a sitting goose waiting to get the right answers.
"ODD" OPPOSITIONAL DEFIANT DISORDER

UPDATE: 12-2-05
Ok, so Jacob did very very well for the doctor. He needs glasses:) Which we thought. So he gave us a prescription to get him glasses. So I get home and call to find out where I can get them from the insurance company and they tell me both kid's insurance was inactive.
What happened was we've been living in this county since Sept. it took them just now to send the intercounty transfer to where we are living and it closed their inusrance out. Which someone should've sent us something to let us know what was going on. The guy said their information most likely shouldnt change meaning the card numbers. So Im hoping this is the case and I hope I get the papers soon. I hate when the kids dont have insurance because I feel as though we are cursed with a big dark cloud.

UPDATE: 10-26-05
The kids today had OT and Jacob had an education teacher. They both love the teachers. Next week Kylie will get OT and PT. Jacob will get the teacher and OT. And we are still awaiting to hear who will be the speech therapist. That's it for now!

UPDATE: 3-4-05
Jacob had his appt. with the eye specialist yesterday and his lazy eye is still considered Mild. Nothing has changed. They will see him again in 6 mos.

WE'RE HOME as of 11AM!!! HOORAY! Yeah, you read it correctly. He has his ups and downs. No runs or vomit so this is a good thing. He's taking things slowly. Next couple of weeks, we will be trying the BRAT diet (Bananas, Rice Cereal or Rice, Applesauce, Toast). Every day at 10AM "Jacob's Team", as we called it, would come in and go over "Today's Plan" and I was in tears when they said he could go home. I thanked everyone there for helping our little man feel better. He even got the royal treatment of going out in the wagon to the car. Anytime, the kids are ever sick again even though it is an hour drive we plan on taking them to Hershey because they receive the best care there better then at the local hospital.
Please keep us in your thoughts and prayers as Jacob goes on his road to feeling totally Jacob again!!!

02/09/05 - Right now he is off the IV fluids and is drinking ginger ale, clear liquids, no wires. Such a big improvement. They think he received a little too much fluid because he started swelling so they decided to cut the IV completely but to leave his line in just in case they need to hook him back up. The nurses felt as though he had received enough in which he did of course. I have not gotten any sleep so hopefully tonight I will be able to rest. They are hoping to discharge us sometime tomorrow. The runs have subsided. He was diagnosed with Severe Dehydration, Gastroenteritis, and Rota Virus. Today in the hospital was "All you can eat Pasta Party" sponsored by the Olive Garden. I went down to the family room to eat while the little guy slept. The Family Room is really nice and I enjoyed going in there.

02/07/05, 02/08/05 - Well, Jacob went back to the ER and we almost lost him. I can't put into words about how I felt and what I was going to do. He was completely white, and lethargic. We were even asked if we wanted to speak with a chaplain. He was sent to X-ray and then to the pediatric floor of the local hospital. He looked terrible and I was soooo upset. His pediatrician came in and said after the IV, antibiotics and fluids were in that they were shipping him off to Hershey, where he would be under watch for 24hour guard in the IMC a step down from Pediatric ICU in between the floor and ICU it's known as. He was "LifeLioned" up to Hershey Medical Center late Monday night/morning. They even had an oxygen mask on at all times, on the wall of course, in case he would need it. While being in the IMC unit, a Harlem Globetrotter came to visit the children, Jacob was too sick to have a visit because what he had was contagious(sp?). So he got a wave at least :)
